Paper Quilling: How to Make Heart-Shaped Crafts and Designs for Valentine’s Day

Quilling Heart Crafts

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so it’s time to start looking at some crafts and gifts for your loved ones. Read this article to learn how to make cute quilled hearts, a heart-shaped paper pendant, and more!

Quilled hearts.
Make some closed coils.
Shape them into teardrop shapes.
Glue two teardrop coils together.

A Basic Quilled Heart

Let’s begin with a quilled heart. If you are new to quilling, check out this tutorial for some basic instructions.

Instructions

  1. Roll a strip of quilling paper into a closed coil, and glue the end of the strip to the coil.
  2. Pinch one side of the coil to make a teardrop shape.
  3. Make a similar teardrop shape with another strip of quilling paper.
  4. Glue the sides of the two teardrop coils together to make a quilled heart.

Fold quilling paper strip in half.
Roll one end of quilling paper.
Roll the other end and glue both ends.
Make a small closed coil for the necklace.

Heart-Shaped Pendant

This heart-shaped pendant uses an open coil technique.

Instructions

  1. Fold a strip of red quilling paper in half.
  2. Roll both ends of the quilling paper until the coils meet in the centre.
  3. Glue the coiled ends together so that it looks like the shape of a heart.
  4. Make a small closed coil and glue it to the top of the heart pendant.
  5. Paint the pendant with varnish to make it waterproof and to strengthen it.
  6. Leave the pendant to dry.
  7. String a necklace through the small coil.

Take a red strip of quilling paper.
Fold paper in half.
Bend both ends to make a heart outline.
Glue the ends together.
All quilling bits are ready to be displayed.

Embellishments for Handmade Cards and Quilling Projects

Instructions

  1. Take a strip of red quilling paper.
  2. Fold the paper in half.
  3. Bring the two ends of the paper together to form an outline of a heart.
  4. Glue the ends of the paper together.
  5. Glue the heart on a piece of paper or handmade card.
  6. Make some red closed coils.
  7. Arrange the coils along the inside border of one side of the heart.
  8. Glue the coils to the side of the heart to hold them in place.
  9. Make a quilled heart with two teardrop coils and arrange it on the other side of the big heart.
